Hand carved of walnut about 1900, this graceful bed accepts a standard full or double size mattress as shown.
The original finish has very warm antique patina on figured and matched walnut. Polished to a mellow sheen, it is in beautiful condition with a few dings and losses at the edges as shown.
Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. Original carved side rails support wooden cross slats, the spring unit and mattress in photos is 20" thick together as shown.
To keep bedding from being so tall as to cover much of the headboard, a thin platform or "bunky board" can be used under the mattress instead of a spring unit. The opulent crest shows artistry in high relief by a master carver.
Crafted in France, size is 79" long, 57" wide, the headboard is 59" tall and the footboard is 36" high.
The matching nightstand in photos is priced and sold separately, call or email for availability.
