Used in the 1890's to cover a fireplace opening when not used in the summer, this embossed iron insert or "summer cover" has bronze or coppery highlights.

A lever will open the damper for a little ventilation. This traditional Victorian fireplace accessory would also be nice on a faux or decorative fireplace mantel.

Size of this American antique is 31" wide, 30 1/2" tall and 4" deep.
