Victorian Antique Silverplate Inkwell and Pen Holder

A richly engraved Victorian desk set includes a tray with two pen holders, double glass inkwells and a matching scraper for scraping fresh ink or folding stationery. Underneath is the signature "Meriden Quadruple Plate."

The glass inkwells have ground bottoms. It was traditional to use black ink for business and a personal color of ink for social correspondence. Sometimes ledger accounting was black for positive numbers and red for negative. Other than minor wear to the silver plate, we see no damage to this charming American set.
