An authentic antique tall case or grandfather clock has a mahogany case and dates from about 1820. This Georgian design clock was expertly hand made in America, but unfortunately was not signed.
The solid mahogany case has an very fine old finish with warm antique patina. Inlaid rosewood and satinwood banding and the shell medallion on the door are especially beautiful. Fluted columns are charming on this historic antique furniture. There are shrinkage separations, mars and warps as would be expected in a genuine antique of this age, see photos.
In fine running order, the 8 day handmade brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it strikes the hour. The brass pendulum appears original, the winding crank is a modern replacement.
Chips and crackling or crazing to the hand painting on the iron dial suggest that the paint is also original. Engraved brass minute and hour hands plus brass mounts on the columns and pediment also appear original.
Dimensions of this classic Georgian period timepiece are 20" wide, 10" deep and 6' 10 1/2" tall.
