A wine or cider macerator and press plus oak barrels dates from about 1900, and was used in an Italian community - Iron Mountain in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Well worn with traces of old paint, this substantial antique press appears to be in working condition, but we can't get enough grapes for a test batch.
There is a lower tray to collect the fruit juice, it runs out of a hole in front. There is a piece missing from the cranking wheel on the macerator, see photos. A handle turns the giant iron screw on the press to squeeze the macerated fruit.
Overall size is 26" wide including the removable crank, 31" deep and 39" tall. Two barrels are oak with iron bindings measure 15" diameter and 22" long.
