Hand made of wide planks of camphor wood about 1920, a "campaign" chest has a cover over the drawers and handles at the ends for military officers to carry.
The inset hardware and absence of feet and overhangs made this traditional furniture more easily "portable." The old finish has beautiful patina and lots of antique character - mars, dings and wear.
Wide planks of beautifully figured camphor wood have a oil that repels damaging insects, as cedar also does.
Drawers are dovetailed on this nostalgic British Empire furniture. The lock does work, the key should be removed before opening so as not to damage the top when flipped up.
Size is 41" long, 19" deep and 18" tall.
