An inspired Brittany design dining set has hand carved figures and dates from the 1920's. Solid oak, the incredible three dimensional sculptures and detailing are expertly hand carved. Statues are true individual representations.
The original finish has been cleaned and waxed, it is in superb condition for its age. The top surfaces have been revarnished for durability and stain resistance. Virtuoso workmanship is superior everywhere. This spectacular antique set is part of a dowry set custom made for a prosperous family near the Atlantic coast.
Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress and wooden shoes, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs.
