A magnificent "half tester" bed was carved of solid oak for a plantation near Lafayette, Louisiana about 1880. The original half canopy was probably once upholstered underneath, it could have fabric or a panel installed if desired. Mosquito netting would have hung from the frame.
Carved in the Eastlake style of the era, there are geometric moldings and incised "spoon" or chip carvings. On the backside is a stencil "B. Falk, Lafayette, La."
The satiny deep brown finish is excellent throughout this exceptional American made furniture. The strong and sound frame disassembles for moving. It has been expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress as shown in photos. We suggest anchoring the upper tester to the wall for stability.
Measurements of this historic antique are 87" long, 69" wide and 119" tall including the removable 12" upper crest.
