Architectural salvage from a St. Paul, MInnesota church, this remarkable canopy dates from about 1920 and has twelve individual hand carved panels depicting Christian motifs symbols and family crests or armorial coats of arms, some with Latin mottoes.
Chiseled into solid oak planks, the panels show exquisite artistry and detail. One panel is a dedication to those who died in World War I, or as it was known then, "The Great War 1914-18."
The original finish is very well preserved, there is a gilded iron hook where this sculptural canopy is said to have rested over a baptismal font.
Dimensions of this work of art are 34" diameter and 50" tall.
