The engraved Russian Cyrillic script stamps on this Czarist era late 1800's samovar are beautiful. This traditional hot water kettle was used to boil water for tea, hot coals were placed in the "chimney" to heat the water tank, which is lined with tin.
We have not fired it up, but the reservoir does hold water and the spigot works. The drip try is also signed, it is missing one handle.
Samovars were symbolic of hospitality, and seem to be mentioned in every Russian novel.
Heavy weight solid brass with a warm coppery tone, there are a few dents and dings for character and patina. Size of this nostalgic antique is 18 1/2" tall, the tray is 10" x 18."
