Hand crafted of solid quarter sawn oak about 1870, this bookbinder's press was used to flatten a book after its pages were folded and sewn.
The large size suggests it was used for art books or portfolios books of prints and engravings. Hand cut dovetails and the the giant walnut wood screw show expert workmanship.
The finish is well preserved on this antique bookpress, measuring 24" long, 18" wide and 31" tall.
