Hand carved about 1840 as a "rope" bed with a removable canopy, this American Empire period antique was expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress as shown.
Solid maple, the satiny finish is in excellent condition. Original side rails with holes for stringing a rope "spring" were extended. An upholstered pallet or "bunky board" is included to use instead of a spring unit, photos show a standard queen size mattress that is 10" thick.
Delicate and well proportioned posts are beautifully hand carved with a spiral motif on this historic furniture. Large bolts secure this bed together, they have brass covers.
Dimensions are 89" long, 60" wide and posts are 78" tall including the removable finials, the canopy is about 83" high.
