"Welcome the coming, speed the parting guest" is the saucy carved inscription on this 1910 era cedar chest, which certainly makes an interesting coffee or cocktail table.
The finish is in excellent condition, preserving traces of hand painting. The grapevine and other motifs are hand "carved" with wood burning tools into solid maple and birch hardwood. Natural cedar lines the interior, there is the scent on mothballs inside.
Signed "P. Rossi Co., San Francisco, Paris & Venice," this charming antique chest is American made furniture.
Size is 42" long, 19" wide and 17 1/2" tall.
