Signed by famous American maker, "Ethan Allen," this grandfather or tall case clock from about 40 years ago is solid oak, carved in the Renaissance manner.
The finish is in excellent condition, with spiral columns and "linen fold" panels. A brass and silver filigree dial has the Latin motto, "Tempus Fugit," or Time Flies.
Signed "West Germany," the 8 day brass movement keeps accurate time, and winds by pulling the chains. Every quarter hour, the familiar "Westminster" chime melody from Big Ben in London plays, the hour is also counted. The brass pendulum and three weights are original on this vintage furniture.
Size is 20" wide, 12" deep and 6' 1/2" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
