A traditional cast iron safe or strongbox is signed "Pat. June 12, (18)88," and has a working combination lock. The exterior was repainted long ago, so the maker's signature is lost, we are told it was Alpine Safe Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Inside are small compartments, one has a key for a handle only, the lock does not work. American made, this heavy antique has original iron wheels. The combination can be reset on the removable door.
Dimensions are 22" wide, 20" deep and 31" tall.
