A splendid Victorian portable travel or "lap" desk was beautifully crafted in England around 1890, and was the "Laptop" of the age. Mahogany with inlaid brass, the presentation plaque on top was never engraved.
The silken hand rubbed finish is in extremely fine condition on figured solid mahogany, the lock is signed "Braman," there is no key. Inside is a gold tooled leather writing surface, compartments for pens, ink bottles and stationery, one small lid is repaired. Side handles are recessed on this nostalgic British antique.
Closed measurements are 20" long, 11" deep and 6 1/2" tall, when opened, size is 20" x 22" and the writing surface slopes from 2" up to 5" tall.
