A gavel made from 20 numbered species of exotic hardwoods has a fine polished finish. A paper label bears the name Louis W. Hill, a son of the famous St. Paul family, founders of the Great Northern Railroad. Probably from the 1930's or 1940's, the maker is unknown.
Measurements are 11" long and 3 1/2" wide. The velvet case is 14" long and 4" x 4."
