From the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1885, a solid walnut bedroom set includes a queen size bed, chest or dresser with mirror and small chest or commode, both with marble tops. Incised "spoon" carving, wheat motifs plus high relief floral carving are exquisite on this American made antique furniture. The restored finish is excellent, enhancing matched burl panels. A penciled address of the original owner reads, "Fergus MacLachlan, Centuria, Wis."
Expertly adapted to fit queen size bedding, the bed includes wooden support slats as shown. Measurements are 86" long, 66" wide, the headboard is 73" tall and the foot board is 30" high. The demonstrator queen size mattress and spring unit are 19" thick together.
On the two chests, embossed nickel hardware is original. "Tennessee Red" marble tops have been polished and sealed to resist stains. The original dresser mirror has a beatiful wide curved bevel and a little antique "smoke" to show its age. The swivel candle holders are also original. Dimensions are 44" wide, 20" deep, 81" tall and the marble top is 28 1/2" high. The small chest is 30" wide, 17" deep and 29" tall.
