English Victorian 1890 Antique Portable Travel or Lap Desk, Brass Inlay, Leather

A splendid Victorian portable travel or "lap" desk was beautifully crafted in England around 1890, and was the "Laptop" of the age. Mahogany with inlaid brass, the presentation plaque on top was engraved.

The silken hand rubbed finish is in extremely fine condition on solid mahogany, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.

The lock has a working key. Inside is a new leather writing surface, compartments for pens, ink bottles and stationery. There is a shrinkage separation from age in the top of this nostalgic British antique.

Closed measurements are 16" long, 10" wide and 5" tall, open size is 16" square with a slanting top.
