A spectacular "Black Forest" bookcase was hand carved of solid oak about 1880 in the Alpine region where France, Germany and Switzerland meet.
Three dimensional sculpted gargoyles, oak leaves and classical library motifs are masterful. The original finish is very well preserved on this European antique furniture. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
There is original wavy glass in the door, the key is a handle only, the lock does not work. Shelves adjust on wooden supports. The drawer has hand cut dovetail joints.
Dimensions are 37" wide, 21" deep and 7' 8" tall, interior depth is 13."
