This 1830's "butler's" desk was used by the butler or chief executive officer of a "Downton Abbey" type house, who hired and fired the staff and did the accounts. It was intended to be used with a stool or standing, the writing surface is 33" high when opened.
Solid cherry with matched flame grain mahogany, the restored finish is in excellent condition. This exquisite handcrafted antique furniture is American made, drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. The top "drawer" has brass push buttons to drop the front. Inside is a natural saddle leather desk top with tiny cubicles and drawers for papers.
Overall dimensions are 43" wide, 22" deep and 45" tall.
