An opulent Victorian mantel clock was signed by famous maker, "Ansonia of NY, Pat. June, 1882," and has a sculpture of a pensive seated Roman soldier.
Professionally cleaned and oiled, the original signed brass movement keeps excellent time for a week on a winding, counting the hour on a gong. The hand painted porcelain dial surrounds an exposed "open escapement" on this American made antique clock.
The cast iron base has retouched black enamel. Statue and paw feet are richly detailed "spelter" or white metal alloy, similar to pewter.
Measurements are 17 1/2" wide at the paw feet, 7 1/2" deep and 13 1/2" tall.
