A cast metal statue of Mercury is after the famed original by Giambologna, which stood in the Piazza in Florence for centuries. The Roman messenger of the gods carries his calyx as winged feet and helmet speed him on his way.
Dating from the late 1800's, the dark rich bronze toned patina on the spelter metal sculpture has just enough wear for a little antique character. The base has an original contrasting bronze finish, inside is an iron weight for stability.
Giambologna, one of the great sculptors of the Renaissance, lived 1529-1608.
Size of this work of art is about 8" x 9" and 26" tall.
