This "immigrant" trunk or blanket chest was hand crafted of pine in northern Europe and brought to America about 1840. The curved "dome" top helped keep a chest at the top of the pile in a ships hold, instead of on the bottom.
Old worn paint has been preserved with clear varnish, keeping just enough mars and dings for a little character. Corners have hand cut dovetail joints, this antique furniture was assembled with wooden pegs instead of nails. Original handles and hinges are hand wrought iron, the lock is lost.
Measurements are 48" long, 24" deep and 27" tall.
