This charming desk or side chair was hand carved of solid elm, oak and beech about 1870 in England. Legs are mortised through the seat, which was carved from a single block of hardwood.
The original wax finish is well preserved and has been re-waxed and buffed, all that is needed to preserve the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There is lots of wear and mars for antique character. This sturdy furniture has been reglued to serve another generation.
Size is 18" wide, 21" deep, 36" tall and the seat is 17" high.
