Hand crafted in Ohio about 1840, this rocking bench has a removable front guard to use as a baby cradle while leaving hands free, sometimes called a "mammy bench." Cherry, poplar, walnut and maple hardwoods were joined by a skilled country carpenter.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. There are various restorations on the frame over the decades, and it has been reglued to serve another generation.
Measurements are 56" long, 31" deep, 31" tall and the seat is 15" high.
