This exquisite bronze sculpture from the 1920's depicts a beautiful woman with a saucy expression putting on her shoe as she sits on bear rug, signed "Bruno Zach." The deep gold statue has cold painted and silver gilt fired details. There is just enough wear for a little antique patina. This work of art was called "Stockings," according to a London dealer asking over $15,000 for a similar figure without a base.
Bruno Zach was born in the Ukraine in 1891, and emigrated to Austria, studying at the Vienna Academy. Famed for his tall, athletic dominating female subjects, he also produced notably erotic sculptures, one of which set a record in 2011 at Bonham's in London over $151,000. He died in Vienna in 1945.
This statue has a marble base with chips at the corners, see photos. The figure rests on a bronze fringed carpet plinth.
Size is 12" x 8 1/2" and 11" tall.
