This magnificent console table from about 1870 has an inlaid chessboard of genuine mother of pearl and abalone. Inlaid "boulework" joins bronze and brass designs with hand engraved oak leaf and acorn motifs. The flip and swivel top opens to a game table, revealing a secret compartment underneath. Carved of mahogany, the legs and top are gracefully curved.
The old finish is in very fine condition on this antique furniture from France. There are warps and shrinkage separations from age plus touchups in the boulework, see photos.
Size when closed is 44" long, 24" deep and 30" tall, open size is 44" square.
