Italian Antique 1750 Walnut Dowry Chest or Trunk, Working Lock #31655

Hand carved in Italy about 1750, this trunk or dowry chest would have descended with the daughter of a family, filled with her dowry of silver and linens. Hand wrought iron handles and hardware are wonderful, the giant lock still works. Panels are raised.

The old finish is in very fine condition with glowing patina. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are loads of stains, shrinkage separations from age and mars for antique character. The lift out tray inside is later.

Measurements are 33" wide, 18" deep and 23" tall.
