This straightforward Georgian or Federal period desk from about 1790 was hand crafted of solid cherry in New England.
The old finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are just enough losses, mars and stains for antique character.
Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. The drop front rests on pull out supports, the key is a handle only, the lock does not work. Nails are square and hand cut, later hardware is solid brass.
Dimensions are 46" wide, 22 1/2" deep, 42" tall and the desktop is 32" high, probably used with a stool or standing.
