A magnificent solid oak bookcase or china display cabinet from the Black Forest, where Germany, France and Switzerland meet, was hand carved about 1890 with grapevine and game motifs. Created for a hunting lodge, there is a deer head sculpture on the crown. Carved moldings and raised panels are authentic.
The top of the base has been revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Three dimensional carving is masterful on this antique furniture.
Shelves adjust on wooden supports. Locks do not work, the key is a handle only. Drawers have solid oak sides with hand cut dovetail joints.
Dimensions are 57" wide at the crown, 24" deep and 97" tall the separate base cabinet is 39 1/2" high.
