This splendid country or provincial armoire or wardrobe was hand hewn of solid wormy fruitwood about 1760 in France. Hand carved details are charming, every surface is hand planed. Joints have carved wooden pegs.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, preserving mars and shrinkage separations from age for farmhouse or antique character. There are various restorations over the centuries.
The hand engraved brass plate is original. A giant iron key still works the latch and deadbolt lock. Later shelves adjust on wooden supports.
Doors and the crown are removable, and this rugged furniture is still heavy weight. Care should be taken with measuring for delivery as this does not disassemble further.
Dimensions are 70" wide tip to tip at the crown, 59" wide in the body, 31" deep at the crown and 107" tall.
