This architectural salvage panel is the front wall of an enclosed bed from Brittany in northwest France. Hand carved of solid wormy chestnut, this panel was access to an enclosed bed "cupboard," to keep from drafts during the cold winters of this Atlantic province.
The original finish is very well worn on this antique fragment. There are numerous losses at the edges, see photos. Every surface is hand planed, joints have carved wooden pegs. Legs could be trimmed shorter if desired.
