Hand crafted about 1840 in the Ohio settlement of "Zoar," this day or youth bed is poplar and cherry hardwoods. Hand carved, joints have wooden pegs. The original finish is well worn, and has been waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
This antique furniture with distinctive beautiful clean and simple simple lines was created by the German settlers of this Utopian community, south of Cleveland. The community flourished 1817-1853, and the settlement can still be visited.
The original worn finish has warm patina, and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain its glowing luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Joints have carved wooden pegs on this American made furniture.
There is a new upholstered platform or bunky board, so a futon, foam mattress or pillows could be set inside. The platform is 36" x 71" so bedding would need to be custom.
Overall size is 75" long, 39" wide, the scrolled headboard is 39" high and the footboard is 35" high.
