32732 Staff Favorite - Staff Favorite - Unique color contrasting on this sweet little English desk disguised as a chest.
A Victorian period English secretary desk is curly or "birdseye" maple with carved mahogany brackets and pulls. Dating from about 1870, this style of chest was named after the Duke of Wellington. A key operated the sidelock, which secured all drawers at the same time.
Two drawers form a hidden drop front which opens to reveal a desk with tiny drawers and cubicles for papers. The desktop is old velvet.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, preserving mars and wear for antique character. Drawers have tiny hand cut dovetail joints on this elegant historic furniture.
DImensions are 30" wide, 19" deep, 40" tall and the desk is 28" high.
