Signed by premier maker, "Herschede," a traditional long case or grandfather clock from about 35 years ago has a traditional solid cherry and mahogany case with beveled glass panes. The original hand rubbed finish is in extremely fine condition on this American made vintage furniture.
The brass movement has been professionally adjusted and oiled, and keeps excellent time for a week on a winding. The familiar Westminster chime melody plays on each quarter hour and counts the hour as well. A lever also plays St. Michaels and Whittington chime tunes, or silent. There is a moon phase dial and working lock on the door.
Polished brass weights, mounts, pendulum and winding crank are all original with only minor scratches.
Measurements are 24" wide, 14" deep and 83" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
