Chinese Vintage Carved Camphor Dowry Chest, Trunk or Coffee Table #33095

A traditional Chinese carved dowry chest or trunk from about 70 years ago could also be a coffee table. Deeply carved with traditional motifs of ships, temples and dragons, brass mounts are original. Aromatic camphor wood naturally repels insects, like our cedar.

The restored dark finish is in excellent condition on this antique furniture. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Filled with silks, linens and silver, this chest would have been part of a young woman's dowry to move to her new home upon her marriage.

To use as a coffee or cocktail table, it might be nice to fit a plate glass top.

Size is 40" long, 20" deep and 23" tall.
