Staff Favorite - A proud signature from 1887 on this desk commands attention!
An imposing Victorian period desk with bookcase was hand crafted of solid walnut with burl panels. There is a signature under the bookcase, "W. Hubert Bitten (?) Builder of This, July, 1887," see photos. Deep moldings and panels are beautiful.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique library furniture. A center drawer pulls out with a writing surface at 29" high. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and original embossed brass pulls.
Two doors have working locks and keys. The slanted top is inlaid with natural saddle leather, which slopes up from 32" to 33 1/2" high.
Bookcase shelves are adjustable, the back is wainscoting. Doors have old wavy glass, behind the door below are cubicles and tiny drawers for papers. For easier delivery, the upper section is removable.
Dimensions are 57" wide tip to tip,, 33 1/2" deep and 100 1/2" tall.
