A charming small original watercolor painting dated 1880 depicts the famous stone Bridge of Dee at Aberdeen, Scotland. Built in 1527, it is still in use. The painter, James Burrell Smith was born in 1822 and died in London in 1897. Famous for his large watercolors, his scenes of nature are in collections and museums across Britain. This small scene on board has wonderful details and coloration, plus the artist's distinctive tiny signature.
The burnished gold frame is modern. There are misspellings on the notes on the back side, see photos.
Overall size is 13" x 11" and 1" deep.
