Hand carved of rosewood in the early 1900's, this Chinese dowry cabinet has raised panels with Asian script. The interior is aromatic camphor wood to repel insects like our cedar.
The center doors open to tray drawers for silks and linens. The original finish has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain its original patina is a occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Drawers have hand cut dovetails and chamfered bottoms.
Dowry cabinets like this were filled with a young woman's pewter, silks, and linens and would have moved to her new home upon her marriage.
Measurements are 46" wide, 52 1/2" tall, and 22 1/2" deep.
