A spectacular Victorian Renaissance sofa from about 1870 is solid walnut with burl panels. Solid walnut with burl panels, upholstery is new.
The carved classical heads in profile are almost certainly the work of famous American furniture maker, John Jelliff of Newark, NJ, but there is no proof. His distinctive designs plus deep and comfortable seats are unmistakable.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. Reglued to serve another generation, the frame is strong and tight and the seat is firm but comfortable.
Jelliff lived 1813-1893, and has furniture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, among many other museums.
Measurements are 76" long, 35" deep, 47" tall and the seat is 16" high.
