Bridge at Carrickfergus, Ireland, Antique 7' 9" Oil Painting, Chester #33531

A monumental original oil painting of a bridge over a stream near Carrickfergus, Ireland is attributed to George Chester, although the signature is difficult to read. There is an old auction label on the back, see photos.

This country scene is characteristic of the large British landscapes by this famed English artist. Chester lived 1813-1897, and exhibited all over Britain. This marvelous work of art dates from around 1890, and the composition and brushwork are masterful.

One of the oldest towns in Ireland, Carrickfergus is just outside of Belfast in Northern Ireland, and is famous for its castle.

The matte gold frame is about 40 years old and has minor touchups.

Overall size is 7' 9" wide, 56" tall and 3" deep.
