A Victorian design "ship captain's" desk was also called a "Davenport" after its English inventor, Col. Davenport. This hand crafted one of a kind example was created by an artisan cabinetmaker about 25 years ago. Solid oak, there are raised panels and drawers with dovetail joints.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this American made vintage furniture. Above is a gallery for books, there is a storage compartment on the left and drawers pull out to the right. Tiny drawers and cubicles are under the writing surface, which slopes from 28 1/2" to 31 1/2" high.
Size is 25 1/2" wide, 26" deep and 34" tall.
The compact size and efficient use of space made this antique furniture functional on shipboard. Solid walnut, the restored finish is in excellent condition. Comfortably angled, the top has a new saddle leather writing surface, the interior is curly or birdseye maple with cubicles and tiny drawers. A locking side door opens to drawers with hand cut dovetail joints and there is a tiny pull out drawer fitted for an inkwell and pens.
Dimensions are 26" wide, 25" deep, 27" tall at the front, sloping up to 30" at the back.
