This style of French country manor farmhouse clock was called a Comtoise or Morbier. There is a modern quartz battery movement inside the original 1860's pine case.
Original hand painting on the case is signed "Sarlange Freres (Brothers) a Camboury." Traditional artistry is very well preserved with a little wear as shown.
The hand painted porcelain dial is signed by the maker, "Poulain a Loheac," an ancient town in Brittany, northwest France. Loheac is also famous for an automobile race.
The embossed brass dial surround depicts a plowman, and this clock was made for a wealthy farmer.
Size is 19" wide, 11" deep and 89 1/2" tall.
