A charming little "grandmother" clock from about 60 years ago is signed "Joseph Spandlow of Brandon," a small town northeast of London in England. Crafted of mahogany, there are yew burl panels. The dark brass engraved dial has great patina.
The original finish is very well preserved with distressing to look "antique." The brass movement is signed by famous German maker, "Franz Hermle," and keeps accurate time for a week on a winding. The familiar Westminster chime tune rings on the quarter hour and counts the hour on resonant chimes. Brass pendulum and key are original.
Dimensions are 13 1/2" wide, 9" deep and 57" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
