A spectacular George III tall case clock from the 1760's is signed "Marmaduke Storr of London." Engraved on the dial is the name, "The Merry Ton'd Horn," and musical bells play "A Minuett by Geminiani." The lavish dial includes dolphin and face mounts.
There is an original worn paper label plus later research inside the door, see photos.
The original brass movement has been professionally oiled and adjusted, and keeps accurate time for a week on a winding. The melody plays on concentric bells at 2, 5, 8 and 11 o'clock, and whenever the cord inside is pulled. There is also a bell strike counting each hour and a working calendar dial.
Solid mahogany, the case has a fine old finish. Doors have working locks, the glass is old and wavy on this antique English furniture.
Measurements are 23" wide, 11" deep and 88" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
