This Georgian period tall case or grandfather clock was hand crafted in England about 1825 and signed "J Pratt of Gunnerside." This small Yorkshire village is north of Manchester and is a traditional clockmaking town. The mahogany case has flame grain panels and spiral columns. The lower door has a working lock.
An original hand painted iron dial has ancient ruins with touches of gold leaf and some old repainting. The original brass movement has been professionally cleaned and serviced and keeps accurate time for a week on a winding and counts the hour on a bell.
The restored finish on the case is in excellent condition, preserving warps, mars and losses for antique character, see photos.
Measurements are 23" wide, 10" deep and 90" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
