A grandfather or tall cased clock from the Georgian period around 1825 was handcrafted in England. The mahogany case has flame grain panels and banding, the iron dial has original hand painting with a classical Roman scene and pictures of the original estate in England.
The solid brass movement has been professionally oiled and adjusted and keeps accurate time for a week on a winding. There is a bell strike counting the hour.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, preserving just enough mars and shrinkage separations from age for a little character on this antique furniture. There is crackling and wear to the dial, see photos. Even with a blacklight we can detect no signature. Large engraved brass hands appear original, the second hand does not operate.
Measurements are 25" wide, 11" deep and 100" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" after delivery - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
