A grandfather or tall case clock from 1975 is signed by famous maker, "Colonial," and has a brass movement from Germany signed "Jauch."
The American made walnut burl case has inlaid satinwood marquetry, carved crest and "bombe" base. Each quarter hour, more bars of the familiar "Westminster" chime tune from Big Ben in London play. The hour is also counted on resonant chimes.
The original finish is very well preserved with warm patina. Doors have working locks.
The movement keeps accurate time for a week when wound by pulling the chains on the weights. The brass dial has exquisite engraving, brass weights and pendulum are original.
Measurements are 19 1/2" wide, 12" deep and 87" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
