Antique Pine German Schrank Farmhouse Armoire Hand Painted 1797 Folk Art #34833

A spectacular farmhouse "Schrank" or armoire, wardrobe or closet was hand crafted of pine about 1800 for "Catharina Weiner 1797." Exquisite folk art hand painting of wildflowers is in beautiful condition and appears original, preserved with clear varnish.

This traditional German antique country furniture would have been part of a bride's dowry, and then descended to her daughter.

Delicate carved details are understated, panels are shaped and raised. Every surface is hand hewn and joints are secured with carved wooden pegs instead of nails, see photos.

The original giant lock and key still work and are hand engraved like a suit of armor. On the lock is a sliding door to oil the lock. The door has lift off hinges. Inside are original shelves, a hand dovetailed jewelry drawer and carved wooden clothes hooks.

Measurements are 47 1/2" wide tip to tip, 21" deep and 75 1/2" tall to the top of the arched crown.
